MI6 assassin Kael Saunders was supposed to kill Angel Button after he witnessed a kill. Not only did Kael refuse to hurt Angel, but he took him home and fell in love with him. Living together now in a loving D/s relationship, Angel wants to follow in Daddy’s footsteps while Kael is determined to keep his boy out of the dangerous world of international assassins. During an assignment Kael finds a little girl who is caught up in the frightening world of human trafficking and determines to rescue her.

Be Brave, book 2 of the Angel and the Assassin series.

Angel and the Assassin is like crack for Kindle, I swear. I fought myself from clicking the "buy" button... and lost. Angel still annoys me (although much less so in this book), but I can't get Kael out of my head.

The dynamic between Dominant Kael and his submissive boss Stephen Conran continues in this book, although even a little bit better because Kael is beginning to feel affectionate toward the other man. In fact, my favorite quote of Be Brave is when Kael says to Angel, in reference to Conran, "I feel a bit sorry for him sometimes. His job's not easy. Would you like to have to try to control a man like me?"

It perfectly sums up the characterization of each man's position.

The dungeon scenes are hot. And Kael finally gets around to teaching Angel some orgasm control, which let me tell you - has been way overdue. I'm awfully tired of Angel's, "I came without permission again, I'm so sorry, Daddy" in every sex scene.

So all in all - there is a sense in Be Brave that some progress is being made toward Kael's goal of making a man out of Angel.

Be Brave did not have the constant "daddy daddy daddy" thing from Angel that annoyed me to no end in book 1, but don't think you can skip the first one and jump right into this one - Be Brave would NOT be effective as a stand-alone, so if you're going to come on this journey, you have to read Angel and the Assassin first or you'll be leaping into the dungeon fully clothed, and you'll miss the full impact. Trust me, the gentle flogging of book 1 is a required precursor to book 2.

I wonder how many days I can hold out before buying book 3?

Be Brave Angel The Assassin Volume 2 Fyn Alexander 9781944770495 Books Reviews

I really loved reading this book! This hard-edged, gritty and action-packed tale is DEFINITELY NOT your run of the mill story!
Even better than the first one! Kael becomes more human here and we start to understand him. Angel matures enough so that he does not have the feel of a teenager as much - and he is starting to make life choices and to feel he has a life to look forward to. His naivete and innocence in certain things here is believable but so is his evolution. I'm now used to the Daddy term being used and, while in the first one it just seemed for the kink, in this one you really do get the feel that the relationship truly is father like. Now that sounds not right but it never feels that way. It means more than what it appears - the caring, guidance, and love between them is clearly adult male to adult male. The Daddy kink itself is not one I use or that feels right to me but here it absolutely works.

The action in the story was good and did not become too much at any point - though the tension level never approaches what could be called suspenseful. In this one the drama and challenges are really personal - each character dealing with his own. Even Conran mellows a bit and I really enjoyed seeing how Angel and Kael's relationship affects how Kael sees other people. Of course it only goes so far - but he became a much better well rounded character for me to be drawn too here (not just a drool worthy male) The next door neighbor who wants Kael is hilarious - lough out loud funny in many places. Mattie, the new operative, is bringing quite a lot to the table and is not stereotyped. I suspect she will play a role in future books. I cannot wait to read book 3!

PROS
- Angel is much less childlike in this story than in the previous one. He's still immature at times, but I thought of him more as a bratty adult sub than an actual child, which was how I viewed him when I read Angel and the Assassin. He shows a level of courage and fortitude toward the end of this book that I would admire in any character; compared to his behavior in the first book, he's very impressive in this one.
- There's quite a bit more about Kael's background in this volume, and it's easier to see why he goes so jelly-kneed around Angel when you see instances of similar emotional vulnerability from Kael's past.
- We also get a lot more insight into Angel's character by hearing about his childhood. This helped me to understand his juvenile behavior--as well as the core of strength in him--much better.
- The relationship depicted in these books is different than those depicted in many other BDSM romances in that the men's relationship is not exclusive sexually. I'm not a particular fan of that facet of the relationship, but I do like that Angel and Kael are both secure enough in their feelings for each other than they can play with other people and not have to deal with overwhelming jealousy afterwards.

CONS
- The writing isn't bad, but there's quite a bit of unnecessary telling and repetition. Here's an example Kael is teaching a class and has asked for a volunteer. No one speaks up except Angel, who performs the task perfectly, and then there's this "Every hand went up. Angel had shamed them into doing their job." It's obvious from the first sentence that the other characters have been shamed into doing their jobs. We don't need to be TOLD that.
- The plot outside of the romance is decent enough, but for some reason it just didn't grab me and hold on. I was far more interested in Angel than Kael, so the scenes in which Kael was off on his own, Angel still at home, didn't hold my attention too well.

Overall comments There's a tendency toward melodrama in the characters' actions here, but it didn't seem as extreme to me as it was in the first book. This one's toned down a bit from its predecessor, and I liked it more as a result. I don't think you have to have read the first one in order to enjoy the story here; if you HAVE read the first one, though, be prepared for some small changes in the characters' actions and personalities. Kael is more emotional (which leads to volatility and irrational behavior), and Angel is more mature.
Sequel to the book 'Angel and the Assassin.' I don't usually follow a story line once we get the Happily Ever After, but these two just made me want to know more.
Riveting. I could not put it down. Daddy goes out for a spot of mayhem, hits a snag. Good thing Angel Button is such an apt pupil. It's romance. It's adventure. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Brilliant.
